Driving and walking in Laurel Park have special challenges this spring. Much of the traffic from construction of the Orange Avenue traffic circle is detoured through our neighborhood.
Neighbors on Laurel and Oak Streets report heavier than usual traffic, often traveling above the speed limit. Osprey Avenue is busier than ever and the corner of Osprey and Laurel has been the scene of several wrecks. Monday, March 19th two people crossing Osprey at Laurel were hit by a car.
Sarasota Police were notified about the situation. They promised increased patrols, but their resources are limited.
Project Coordinator, Richard Winder says the Orange Avenue circle will be complete in May. Reopening Orange and the seasonal slowdown should provide some relief.
